Parents can use this simple guide before deciding on a preparation plan.

JNVST

Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya

The Navodaya admission process uses the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test (JNVST). Eligibility and the current prospectus should always be checked on the official NVS admission portal.

  • Check the child's class and date-of-birth eligibility.
  • Read the latest prospectus before applying.
  • For JNVST 2027, prepare Mental Ability + Environmental Studies (EVS), Arithmetic and Language according to the current prospectus.
  • Prepare early with concept practice, reasoning, reading and timed tests.

AISSEE

All India Sainik Schools Entrance Examination

AISSEE is conducted by the National Testing Agency for admission to Sainik Schools and approved New Sainik Schools according to the applicable admission rules.

  • Admissions are conducted for the applicable Class VI and Class IX opportunities.
  • Check age, class, school, gender-seat and other eligibility conditions.
  • Understand the current subject-wise pattern before starting preparation.
  • After results, eligible candidates may need to complete e-counselling and further admission requirements.

Parent Eligibility & Admission Pre-Check

Parents can enter the child's details to receive a preliminary screening and send the same information to TASVIA Academy WhatsApp for guidance. This is a screening tool, not an official NVS/NTA eligibility decision.

Privacy note: the website uses these details to prepare the enquiry message. WhatsApp opens on the parent's device and the parent must press Send. TASVIA should not treat this tool as an official government eligibility decision.

Eligibility: Questions Parents Usually Ask

Do not rely on an old age chart or social-media post. The admission-year notification is the final authority.

“Is my child eligible?”

Check four things together: admission year, target class, date of birth and current/qualifying class. For Sainik School, the school selected and applicable category/seat rules can also matter.

“Can girls apply?”

Eligibility for girls depends on the particular examination, class and current admission rules. For AISSEE 2026, girls were eligible for Class VI and Class IX subject to the published vacancy conditions.

“Can a child from any school apply?”

This depends on the examination and admission route. Parents should read the current prospectus rather than assuming that the rules are identical for every school or route.

“What about reservation and domicile?”

Reservation, domicile, category and school-wise vacancies are rule-based and can differ by admission route. Always use the current official prospectus and school-wise vacancy information.

How Parents Can Support Preparation

Entrance preparation works best when children build accuracy, speed, reading ability and confidence together.

1Build concepts before speed.
2Practise a little every day.
3Review mistakes, not only marks.

For Navodaya

  • Daily Mental Ability and figure practice.
  • EVS preparation: natural world, human body, science in daily life and social surroundings.
  • Arithmetic fundamentals and word problems.
  • Regular reading-comprehension practice.
  • Timed mixed-question practice.
  • OMR-style practice before the examination.

For Sainik School

  • Strong mathematics fundamentals.
  • Intelligence/reasoning practice.
  • Language/English practice according to the target class.

Exam-Day Questions

What should my child carry?

Carry only what the current admit-card and examination instructions permit. Do not rely on an old exam-day checklist.

What if the child makes a mistake on the OMR?

OMR instructions are strict. Parents and students should practise filling bubbles correctly and read the current examination instructions carefully. Do not assume corrections are permitted.

Can the child change the examination centre?

Centre-change rules are controlled by the examination authority. Check the current notice/admit card instructions.

What if the child is late?

Entry rules and reporting times are specified by the authority. Plan the journey in advance and reach the centre well before the reporting time printed on the admit card.

After the Exam: Result, Merit & Admission

Navodaya

Parents should monitor the official NVS admission portal for results, selection lists, document verification and reporting instructions. Selection and admission are governed by the current NVS prospectus and school-wise rules.

Sainik School

For AISSEE 2026, NTA published results/merit information followed by e-counselling. Admission also involved vacancy, eligibility, medical fitness and original-document verification requirements.

Important: qualifying in an entrance examination does not by itself guarantee a particular school seat. Parents must complete the subsequent admission/counselling steps applicable to the admission year.

Parent FAQ — Quick Answers

When should my child start preparation?

Start early enough to build fundamentals first, then increase timed practice and mock tests as the exam approaches. The right duration depends on the child's current level.

Is coaching compulsory?

No general statement should be made that coaching is compulsory. Families may choose self-study, school support, coaching, or a combination based on the child's needs.

How many hours should a child study?

There is no single correct number for every child. A consistent, age-appropriate routine with focused practice and adequate sleep is more useful than an arbitrary long-hour target.

How many mock tests should my child take?

Quality matters more than a fixed number. After each test, identify errors, revise the concept, and practise similar questions.

Is EVS part of the Navodaya Class VI exam?

Yes. For JNVST 2027, EVS is included with Mental Ability in the first section: 20 EVS questions for 25 marks. The 2026 paper used the older pattern, so parents should not use the old pattern as the current 2027 syllabus.

Are previous-year papers useful?

Yes, they can help students understand question styles and practise timing, but the latest official syllabus and pattern should remain the primary reference.

Does TASVIA guarantee selection?

No. TASVIA can provide structured preparation and guidance, but selection depends on the official examination, merit, vacancies and applicable admission rules.

Where can parents check official updates?

Use the official NVS admission portal for Navodaya and the official NTA AISSEE page for Sainik School. Avoid relying on forwarded messages for dates or eligibility.
