- Complete the on-screen verification and download the admit card.
- Print a clear copy and keep a digital backup with the parent or guardian.
- Check the candidate's name, photograph, roll or registration details, examination date, reporting instructions and allotted centre.
3. Eligibility reminders parents should know
For JNVST 2027, the prospectus sets the following key conditions. These are reminders for checking the application already submitted; they are not a substitute for reading the full official notification.
- Date of birth: The candidate must have been born from 1 May 2015 to 31 July 2017, both dates inclusive.
- Current class: The candidate must be studying in Class V for the full academic session 2026–27 in a Government, Government-aided or other recognised school, subject to the prospectus conditions.
- Previous schooling: NVS requires full-session study in Classes III, IV and V in recognised schooling. The prospectus excludes candidates who skipped the specified earlier classes, repeated Class V, or have already appeared for JNVST once.
- District rule: Selection is district-specific. The candidate must satisfy the bona fide residence and Class V study conditions for the JNV district. The prospectus provides a limited exception for a recognised school in a neighbouring district within a maximum radial distance of 10 km from the residence, with the prescribed certification.
- NIOS candidates: The prospectus specifies a 'B' certificate condition and same-district bona fide residence requirement. Parents should check the exact NIOS clause in the notification.
Telangana families: Do not decide eligibility from the district name alone. Check the official Telangana mandal, block and district details for JNVST 2027, including any special block mapping, and compare it with the child's actual school and residence records.
4. Understand the official test pattern
The 2027 prospectus describes three sections. Section I combines Mental Ability and Environmental Studies; Arithmetic and Language are Sections II and III. This distinction matters when planning timed practice.
| Section | Questions | Marks | Time |
|---|---|---|---|
| I. Mental Ability Test (MAT) | 20 | 25 | 60 minutes combined |
| I. Environmental Studies (EVS) | 20 | 25 | |
| II. Arithmetic Test | 20 | 25 | 30 minutes |
| III. Language Test | 20 | 25 | 30 minutes |
| Total | 80 | 100 | 120 minutes |
The prospectus awards 1.25 marks for each correct answer and states that there is no negative marking. An additional 40 minutes is allowed for eligible Divyang students, as specified in the prospectus.
5. What to revise in each subject
Mental Ability Test — 20 questions
The non-verbal MAT has five parts, with four questions in each: pattern completion, figure-series completion, geometrical figure completion (triangle, square and circle), mirror imaging, and embedded figures. Practise observing the whole figure before comparing answer choices. Ask the child to explain the rule behind a pattern.
Environmental Studies — 20 questions
The EVS section includes 15 multiple-choice questions and one passage followed by five questions. The prospectus groups its learning areas broadly as:
- The natural world: transport, rivers, mountains, plants and animals on land and in water, natural disasters, houses and shelters, and the water cycle.
- The human body: food and nutrients, hygiene, cleanliness, super senses and basic knowledge of digestive, circulatory and respiratory systems.
- Science in daily life: food preservation, water and air pollution, and conservation of water and soil.
- Social surroundings: Indian superlatives, States and capitals, national symbols, landscapes, festivals, seasons, forests, crops, clothes and fibres.
Use short explanations, labelled drawings, everyday examples and small recall quizzes. Avoid memorising disconnected facts without understanding them.
Arithmetic Test — 20 questions
Revise the topics listed in the prospectus:
- Numbers and the number system, including ascending and descending order, nearest values, number names and place value.
- Four fundamental operations on whole numbers.
- Factors and multiples and their properties.
- Fractions and the specified fundamental operations; the prospectus excludes unlike-fraction operations and division of fractional numbers.
- Measurement of length, mass, capacity, time and money, including unit conversion.
- Simplification of numerical expressions.
- Perimeter of polygons and area of squares, rectangles and triangles as part of a rectangle.
- Types of angles and simple applications, including directions and mapping.
- Data analysis using bar diagrams, tables and pictographs.
For each topic, solve a few untimed examples first. Then practise a short timed set and check every calculation. Keep units visible in measurement questions.
Language Test — 20 questions
The Language Test assesses reading comprehension through four passages, each followed by five questions. Practise reading the full passage, identifying the main idea, locating supporting details and understanding words from context. The student should read the question carefully before selecting an answer.
6. A practical 26-day revision plan: 2–27 November
This is a suggested TASVIA study plan, not an NVS timetable. Adjust the daily workload to the child's school hours, health, attention span and rest needs. The goal is to improve accuracy and confidence without creating last-minute pressure.
Find the gaps
Attempt one baseline practice paper or section-wise diagnostic. List weak MAT patterns, EVS themes, arithmetic topics and reading-comprehension errors. Start a simple mistake notebook.
Repair concepts
Revise weak topics in small blocks. Practise figure questions, EVS recall, arithmetic fundamentals and one short reading passage each day. Rework every incorrect question.
Build exam rhythm
Complete two full-length timed practice tests on separate days. Use the official 60-minute, 30-minute and 30-minute section timings. Spend the next session reviewing mistakes rather than chasing a higher score.
Consolidate
Revisit the mistake notebook, practise short mixed sets and revise important EVS concepts. Focus on careful reading, neat working and avoiding repeated errors.
Keep it light
Do brief recall, check the admit card and documents, confirm the route to the centre and prepare permitted stationery. Avoid new chapters and late-night study.
A balanced daily routine
One possible 90-minute practice routine, with short breaks as needed:
| Practice block | Suggested time | Focus |
|---|---|---|
| Mental Ability | 20 minutes | One or two figure-based question types |
| EVS | 20 minutes | One theme plus recall questions |
| Arithmetic | 25 minutes | One concept and a short problem set |
| Language | 15 minutes | One reading passage or comprehension set |
| Mistake review | 10 minutes | Correct, explain and record errors |
This is a coaching suggestion only. It is not an official NVS requirement or a guarantee of selection. Protect time for school, meals, play and sleep.
7. Exam-day checklist for parents and students
Before leaving home
- Printed JNVST 2027 admit card.
- The candidate's Aadhaar card or the Government-approved residence certificate of the parent uploaded in the application portal, as specified by NVS.
- Blue or black ballpoint pen. The prospectus says pencil use on the OMR sheet is strictly prohibited.
- Check the centre address and plan to arrive early enough to be seated by 11:00 AM.
- Follow any additional directions printed on the admit card.
- Reach on time: Candidates must be seated in the allotted room by 11:00 AM. The test begins at 11:30 AM; latecomers will not be allowed.
- Check the booklet: Confirm that the question booklet and OMR sheet carry the same booklet number/code. Tell the invigilator immediately if they do not match.
- Mark carefully: Darken the selected circle properly. The prospectus prohibits changing a darkened response, erasing it or using white/correction fluid.
- Check details: Ensure the roll number and booklet number are filled and marked correctly before handing over the OMR sheet.
- Stay calm: Read instructions first, manage time section by section and avoid rushing through familiar questions.
8. How parents can help in the final weeks
Keep the child's routine predictable. Ask what they learned rather than repeatedly asking how many marks they scored. Help organise the admit card and travel plan, but let the child practise answering independently. If a topic remains weak, revise its basic idea and solve a few representative questions instead of starting a large new workbook.
For families in Telangana, confirm the district and block details from the NVS document. Keep original age, residence and category documents safe for the verification stage if the child is provisionally selected. A test score or provisional selection notice by itself does not complete admission; follow the subsequent NVS verification instructions.
